Changes to Shoreline Management Plan
Effective: September 1, 2014
Duke Energy Invited Jim and I to a very informative meeting on the update to the Shoreline Management Plan for Lake Keowee. This wealth of information allows us to ensure that the latest report from Duke Energy is available to our waterfront clients. If you have owned property on Lake Keowee since the early years then you already know the original Shoreline Mangement Plan (SMP) was developed in 1987. Two separate updates have occurred on the different plans – one for Lake Keowee and one for Lake Jocassee. As of September 2014, there is a new single Keowee – Toxaway Project Shore Management Plan covering both lakes.
Here are a few points from the meeting:
Changes to Docks -
Due to the possibility of the water depth having a potential of being lowered five feet, Duke is allowing changes to a docks configuration. Normal size dock limits will increase from 1000 to 1200 square feet The additional 200 square feet must be for the purpose of reaching deeper water. It will be permissible to “follow the water” by moving a dock during drought or lower water times provided the dock is returned to the permitted location within 14 days of the water situation returning to normal.
Important Changes to Fees –
$0 fee (temporary) for dock reconfiguration permits
$300.00 to apply for dock permit
$500.00 for mandatory Habitat Enhancement Program(payable to HCP – not Duke)
